This one is bittersweet as I don't really want to say goodbye to the SNES Final Fantasy series, but we must! To reiterate what was said in the last album, I've always wondered what Final Fantasy music would have sounded like if they used their original instrumentation before they were edited down to Super Nintendo-edited samples. I saw a video on YouTube once where FF6 was doing this, playing back from a Roland Sound Canvas player, and it blew me away. So, about 6 years ago I went on a rompler hunt and started learning the sources of a lot of games' samples. I found out that there was a community on Discord for people like me named the 'VGM & Other Instrument Sources' where people would post not only the sources of some games' instruments, but where to find those samples as well.\n\"And thus, Synthetic Origins was born.\n\"The first edition came out about four years ago for Final Fantasy IV. I had always thought about making one for FF5 and FF6, and more, but the process took SO long and you would not believe how difficult and time consuming it is to create this kind of a project. That being said, I was remastering FF music on YouTube lately mid-2021, and then Square Enix goes and announces a new version of FF 1 to FF6 called Pixel Remaster. I finished the Final Fantasy V release, and now, the Final Fantasy VI release is completed!\"\nSynthesizers/ROMplers Used:\n-Roland S-550\n-Roland S-760 with SCSI2SD emulating the Roland CD-5\n-LCD-1 Disc\n-Universe of Sounds Roland CD\n-Fairlight CMI III Library (Kick drum, clang sound in Devil's Lab, the multi-sampled harp. FF6's harp was sampled from the higher notes, which is almost audible in Prelude.)\n-Akai S1000 Library (a rarely used nylon guitar that got its sound from this library)\n-W30 Library (Just like with FF5, this was only used to fill in the gap for some missing samples, like the trumpet)\n-E-MU Emulator III (Only for a few samples, like the finger snap, and the crash sound in Devil's Lab)\n-A Korg M1 sample used (the heavy snare sample), also found on the Universe of Sounds Roland CD\n-Invision Lightware Volume 1 (Nylon String Guitar)\n-Club 50 Foundations\n-OMI Universe of Sounds for the drip sound effect in Narshe and Town 3\n-Best Service Voice Spectral for Narshe's and Dancing Mad's Breath sound effect\n-Bob Clearmountain's Drums for that iconic Crash Cymbal!\n-Kurzweil K1200 Pro 1 for the Fingered Bass (FF6 used a lower sample in the same bank that FF4 got its bass from! FF4's bass is triggered on some higher notes in this soundtrack.)\nThere were a few samples that couldn't be found and had to be improvised. According to tssf, the only unfound samples were:\n-Draco's opera voice (The more I think about it, the more I feel like those tenor voices were sampled from an actual opera CD, there really weren't many opera sample CDs back in the early 1990s)\n-The stick percussion sound in Shadow's Theme was never found, though I just tried to make a sample I had sound like it.\n-The unused Town 3 used a weird stick sound as well, which I desperately went hunting for the sound of.. and couldn't find it.\n-The recorder sounds in Kids Running Through The Street are not the sources for the samples used in the game, unfortunately. Or if they are, they were highly edited. I used the sounds I thought sounded the closest.\n-The Percussive Organ in FF6 was never found. I thought it came from the E-MU Vintage Keys module like FF7's did but it didn't work. So, the Percussive Organ was remade from scratch on a hammond-style synthesizer.\n-Try as I might, I could never find the crowd mumbling sound before Grand Finale :( I tried really really hard.
